PCU Registered Nurse Job in Saint Louis, MO

Barnes-Jewish Hospital Nursing is seeking a Registered Nurse for a 91-day travel assignment in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in Saint Louis, MO. This role offers a 3x12 night shift schedule with 36 guaranteed hours per week at $2,245 weekly pay. Every other weekend is required, and there is no on-call duty.

Role Overview

You will care for adult and geriatric patients with cardiac and post-surgical diagnoses in a lower-acuity progressive care setting. Patient ratios are 1:3–5. You may float within the service line before the house as needed. The unit is transitioning to PCU operations, so comfort with lower-acuity patients during this transition is important.

Required Experience & Certifications

• 2 years of nursing experience
• Telemetry or step-down experience required
• EKG interpretation and cardiac drip management
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Proficiency with Epic charting system
• Must pass Relias EKG exam on dysrhythmia interpretation and management

Key Responsibilities

You will manage patients with CHF, arrhythmias, ACS, valve disease, CAD, hypertensive crisis, chest pain, syncope, pacemaker and AICD complications, acute renal failure, and LVAD support. You will perform and assist with cardiac catheterization, pacemaker/AICD placement, echocardiogram, stress testing, cardioversion, and ablation. Post-operative care includes management of heart transplant, CABG, and valve surgery patients.

Clinical Skills

• Arterial line and central line management
• Cardiac telemetry and pacemaker management
• Chest tube and pericardial drain management
• Tracheostomy care and management
• Cardiac and vasoactive drip titration
• Heparin protocols and blood product administration
• PICC line management and phlebotomy

Additional Details

Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, radiology, social services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams. Scrub color is navy. First-time travelers are accepted. Your home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility. Time off requests are limited to 40 hours (5 days) total during the contract, with a maximum of 2 requests allowed.
